Dr. Narasi Sridhar is the 2017 F.N. Speller Award recipient. This award recognizes an individual who has made significant contributions in the field of corrosion engineering. Dr. Sridhar is recognized for his work in life prediction and risk assessment. Dr. Sridhar has guided the development and use of the Bayesian network tools in risk management of several systems, notably pipelines. He has also led multidisciplinary research on localized corrosion and stress corrosion cracking (SCC) of corrosion-resistant alloys in sour environments, SCC of steel in ethanol and nitrate-containing nuclear waste environments, and electrochemical conversion of carbon dioxide.
Dr. Sridhar discussed environmentally assisted cracking models and SCC in various non-aqueous environments. His presentation also expressed the need for predictive analytics as well as the integration of diverse sources and scales of knowledge. He mentioned a variety of challenges, including legal, commercial tools, loss of experts, and funding. Dr. Sridhar stated that lack of technology was not a problem that is currently faced.
