Monday's 5 p.m. kickoff of the 2017 CORROSION Grand Expo started with the annual ribbon cutting ceremony. Wielding larger-than-life scissors, President Sandy Williamson opened the floor hall directly following the Materials Performance’s Corrosion Innovation of the Year Awards ceremony.
As of the opening ceremony, more than 6,000 attendees had registered, announced by NACE CEO Bob Chalker. The flood of conference attendees gathered at the entrance were welcomed by an eight-person New Orleans brass band, which led the march of visitors in and down the center aisle toward the NACE booth (#2839).
Also spotted in the hall was Dr. Rusty von Rust, NACE’s corrosion supervillain. Visitors reported throughout the evening that he was lurking around the show floor in his lab coat, goggles, and gloves, attempting to wreak havoc upon unsuspecting susceptible substrates.
The hundreds of exhibitors offered attendees a chance to get a first-hand look at products and services throughout the evening.
We look forward to continuing the celebration and exchange of information on the Expo Hall floor Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.
